Default Facebook Approaches

Has anyone had any successful Facebook approaches?

I might see someone on one of my friend's pages and want to reach out to her - however, her page will often be hidden. Curious if you guys have encountered/successfully handled this and how.

Thanks.

I am also about as clueless about this as you are. I'm currently a 3rd-year undergrad (and I have never dated in my life...can you believe that?) in engineering school at a huge university and Facebook is pretty much a must there...I'd like to present myself properly online without freaking out anyone that I friend on Facebook.

Basically, my "policy", if you will, when I use Facebook is that I only friend people that I meet face-to-face first. So this would apply really well with girls. However, I think my profile is a bit excessive and starts freaking people out (I like a lot of music, so I have a huge "Favorite Music" list). What would be a good balance between being a bit informative while at the same time a bit mysterious (from what I've learned through Carlos and other folks, being a bit mysterious is considered attractive to girls)? Thankfully, I'm one of those people who understand that my Facebook profile != my life.
